So what do you do when you are around people who make you feel bad? We all have those experiences whether it’s at work, with ‘friends’ or for some, with family during the holidays. It’s easy for your mood to spiral downward when you’re around people who judge you, criticize your or simply don’t appreciate you.
Of course ideally, you’d be able to stay away from such people. But sometimes that’s just not possible. In Living With Joy: Keys to Personal Power and Spiritual Transformation, Sanaya Roman describes how to give your energy an instant charge. It’s simpler than you might think. Gratitude is the key to shifting your point of focus, and shifting your energy. Roman’s books provide insight on manifesting the life you want rather than simply getting what you get. She gets her teachings from a spirit that she calls Orin, who she received insight from while meditating so not only does the book provide Law of Attraction guidance, but it provides a peek into the experience of channeling, in which a person receives information psychically from another being. Roman first came into contact with Orin through a Ouija Board, and the result of their sessions together was the information in this book. She also offers guidance on how you can connect with Spiritual guides in Opening to Channel: How to Connect with Your Guide.
So back to Orin’s advice on gratitude. Think about it. If you spend 30 seconds contemplating all of the things that you’re grateful for, those annoying people in your life aren’t likely to make the grade and your thoughts move away from them. The next time you find yourself losing patience or becoming frustrated by someone’s actions, start thinking of things to be grateful for. Put on your rose-colored glasses. This is one of those times when it makes sense to take yourself out of the present moment. See how powerful you are as you’re able to shut out those whose energy is attempting to bring you down.
Gratitude also reminds you how far you’ve come. Roman points out that having a lot of desires can be overwhelming. You want the money, you want the better job, you want the relationship. The list goes on and on. But when you take the time to be thankful, you’re reminded that you do have more money than you had this time last year. Or you’re reminded that you had the money this time to take care of the unexpected car expenses whereas last year you had to use your credit card. That’s an improvement that signifies abundance! Or you’re reminded that even though you’re single, you’re no longer in a unhealthy relationship. That’s something to be grateful for because, again, it’s a sign of abundance.
So when you are listening to that person whose energy brings you down, think about the lessons in manifestation that have showed you just how powerful you are so that you know that noone can control your point of focus except for you. Now that’s something to be grateful for.
